However, on the other side of the gate, the 3rd division captain Ichimaru Gin (3) is waiting to block their entrance. Using his shikai (first stage of his zanpakuto) he pushes Ichigo back to the opening of the gate.
The entire team is forced to find another way in to Seireitei. Yoruichi (ex-2) solicits the help of a friend, Kuukaku Shiba and her brother Ganju Shiba, who uses her fireworks cannon to send them in to Seireitei. However, because of Ichigo’s inability to control his spiritual energy, the group is separated upon landing. Ichigo lands with Ganju. Uryuu is with Inoue, while Chad and Yoruichi are alone.
Rukia’s sentencing has been moved up (14 days and counting) and is transferred into a cell called the Shrine of Penitence, which blocks all emission of reiatsu/spiritual powers and weakens the person in it. The captains of Gotei 13 are called in for the impending invasion of an unknown enemy (Ichigo’s party). Eleventh division captain Zaraki Kenpachi (11) is sent to impede Ichigo’s entrance.
Ichigo and Ganju fends of 11th division members Madarame Ikkakku and Ayasegawa Yumichika (11). Ichigo overpowers Ikkaku but is injured in the process. Ichigo awakens and commits to fighting Kenpachi. As the two clash in a massive strike, Ichigo and Kenpachi collapse. Yachiru (11) takes Kenpachi away for medical treatment while Yoruichi (ex-2) retrieves Ichigo. Ichigo awakens and discovers that Yoruichi is really a woman and not a cat with a male voice.
As Ganju and Hanatarou (4) approaches Rukia’s cell, Ganju realizes that the person standing before him is the killer of his brother, Kaien Shiba (13) lieutenant of 13th division. Byakuya (6) arrives at the bridge of the cell and a battle embroils. Byakuya easily defeats Ganju with his shikai but is stopped by Ukitake Juushirou (13) captain of the 13th division. Ichigo arrives to fight Byakuya but before Byakuya is able to do anything, Yoruichi steps in.
