Fruits Basket is adapted from a very popular manga. The Sohma clan has a family secret, 13 of its members are possessed by spirits of the Chinese Zodiac. When they are hugged by members of the opposite sex or put under great emotional or physical stress they turn into their Zodiac animal.  Why 13?  It includes an ostracized cat – Kyo Sohma.

In walks Tohru Honda, and orphaned high school girl, who is given lodging by Yuki (rat) and Shigure (dog) Sohma in return for her maid services and keeping their secret.  After falling in love with her adopted family, she sets out to break the family curse.

Yuki is the calm and collected individual, while Kyo who was left out is loud, and pushes all who are nice to him away. So begins the battle of Kyo and Yuki (cat and mouse) vying for the attention of Tohru.
