Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (機動戦士ガンダム00 (ダブルオー), Kidō Senshi Gandamu Daburu Ō ) is the seventh run of the Gundam series created by Sunrise. It is the first of the Gundam series to be animated in widescreen and in high-definition.  Double 0 is set in the non-fictional 2307 Anno Domini (A.D.), centering around Celestial Beings (the Gundam force) and their efforts to stop the spread of war.

Earth is controlled by three power blocs, UNION (controls North America), Human Reform League (consists of China, Russia & India) and AEU (controls Europe).  These three power houses each have their own orbital elevators that support solar power orbiting the earth. War erupts among smaller countries not part of these blocs, wanting the controls of these elevators. This fueled the formation of a private military organization called Celestial Being whose cause was to unite people through eradication of war. Celestial Being consists of four Gundams and their pilots, Gundam Meisters.

The main protagonist, Setsuna F. Seiei, is a quiet teenager who pilots the GN-001 Gundam Exia. He owns an orange Haro that helps pilot Gundam Dynames. His Gundam is a sharp shooter. Allelujah Haptism is an orphan that was used as an experimental subject by the Human Reform League. He has dual personalities due to this experimentation.  He pilots Gundam Kyrios which is able to transform into a fighter jet that is highly mobile. Tieria Erde has an unknown past and has a connection with the Innovators. He pilots Gundam Virtue which specializes in explosions.

At the end of the first season, when the three powers are unable to fight the Gundams independently, they unite under UNITED NATIONS ARMY to counter the Being’s interventions. Exia is destroyed with his pilot missing. Lockon is killed in battle with Ali Al-Saachez.
