Jan. 7, 2010. ep. 142: The Battle at Thunder Cloud Gorge

Team Kakashi and the rest of the Konoha ninjas searching for Sasuke make a final attempt in sourcing out his scent – to no avail. They retreat back to the village.

Meanwhile, Sasuke reveals to Madara what he always knew but refused to acknowledge, thus sealing it in the recesses of his unconscious. Before Itachi left Konoha village after the massacre of the Uchiha clan, Itachi told Sasuke to, “Come back to me with the same eye I possess.” At that point, Sasuke’s sharingan was activated and he even saw Itachi well up in tears before leaving.

With Itachi’s death, Konoha’s “insurance” is no longer. Furthermore, with Sasuke on Madara’s team now, Madara is ready to launch a full-fledged attack against the village that not only wronged him, but chose Senju Hashimara instead of him as the First Hokage.

However, Sasuke’s goal, unlike the Akatuski, is to restore the Uchiha clan by his own means (unlike what Itachi wanted it to be), even if it means betraying Akatsuki.

After Madara reveals his true identity to Kisame, who addresses him by Lord Mizukage, Akatsuki is ready to roll with completing the capture of the remaining three jinchuuriki. Zetsu and Madara knew who Itachi was and what he was planning all this while. Their only fear maybe Itachi’s legacy of his Amaterasu, which he transplanted on to Sasuke.

Team Taka is sent to capture Killer Bee, hachibi/the eight tails, who wields eight blades and has scars of horns on his cheeks. The remaining Akatsuki members will target Naruto and Konoha village.

Hachibi Killer Bee

After finding Killer Bee at Unraikyo (Thunder Cloud Gorge) finishing his training with his tailed beast, Sasuke sets up Juugo and Suigetsu against Killer Bee to test the waters. Killer Bee easily dodges both their attacks and taunts them instead. Meanwhile Karin has her own lusty and perverted thoughts of Sasuke as he readies himself to be Killer Bee’s next opponent.

When will Naruto finally realize that Jiraiya is long gone?

Jan. 14, 2010. ep. 143: The Eight-Tails vs. Sasuke

So the battle begins!  This is one very hot battle with all the right moves on both ends. Killer Bee gains ground by reading all his opponents strengths and weaknesses. He soundly trashes Juugo, Suigetsu and even Sasuke’s sharingan genjutsu. Karin has to step in to “heal” him by giving him her chakra. Then after returning for more, Killer Bee releases hachibi and rips out Sasuke’s inner organs.  Juugo, realizing Karin cannot heal a “wound” like this, transfer his powers to Sasuke and in turn, is reduced to a child.

Killer Bee vs. Sasuke

Suigetsu then steps in for his teammates, thus allowing them to leave. Unfortunately for them, Killer Bee morphs into the full form of hachibi, a giant ox head with the body of an enormous octopus, and takes out Suigetsu. A weakened Sasuke, seeing his team badly trounced, uses Amaterasu, which Itachi bequeathed to him, thus setting Killer Bee in black flames. One aflame tentacle tries to capture Karin, but Sasuke uses his Chidori spear to cut it. As Karin tries to escape the ravaged scene, she too is caught in the flames as another tentacle of Killer Bee brushes against her. Sasuke then uses his other eye, his Mangekyo Sharingan to quell the fire. With both eyes bleeding now, the fire on Karin is extinguished just as she falls.

Killer Bee writhes in pain of the burning flames, while two shinobis from his village watch from a far knowing they cannot help him. Sasuke finally douse the fire on Killer Bee as he falls. The watching shinobis return to report to their Lord Raikage, older brother to Killer Bee called E, that Killer Bee is taken down and the Akatsuki is responsible.

Is it what it seems? Is hachibi really such an easy capture? We won’t know any time soon, as it looks like fillers will be creeping in starting next episode.

Jan. 21, 2010. ep. 144: The Wanderer

Team Kakashi, now under Yamato’s leadership, is on a new mission to escort an heiress of a clan to a safe haven. Hotaru, from the Tsuchigumo clan, is being pursued by an unknown four-men group looking to retrieve her grandfather’s forbidden jutsu, which is said to level an entire village with a single hand of destruction. The village elder sends word to Tsunade of Konoha Village asking for assistance, while Hotaru and Utakata (a young man who has since rescued her a few times) try to get to a hidden village.

Team Yamato gets there in time to escort Hotaru, but Utakata sees this as a chance to leave his ward behind, as he does not want any false pretense of him being a “good person.”

Jan. 28, 2010. ep. 145: Successor of the Forbidden Jutsu

Hotaru refuses the protection of the Konoha ninjas. Yamato then hatches a plan: Sai draws slugs raining from the forest above and Hotaru will have no choice but to ask for Naruto to dispel them from her until she reaches the hidden village for protection. Upon reaching there, Hotaru is left in the care of the seemingly hostile and distant villagers. Team 7 leaves, but Naruto returns, worried about the implications the hostility may mean for Hotaru.

Elsewhere, Utakata dreams of the torture he went through under his master’s care. He awakens in time to find the ninja bandits heading towards the hidden village. A fight ensues and Utakata is locked in their pyramid-like barrier jutsu, which explodes.

FEBRUARY 2010

Feb. 4, 2010. ep. 146: The Successor’s Wish

Hotaru is led to her room where she is promptly ambushed by the ninja bandits, Akaboshi’s team, hunting for her. She manages to escape into the forest but they catch up to her. Utakata appears and saves Hotaru, only to be indicted by the bandit leader as a wanted man on 50 million ryo. Utakata and Hotaru escapes the bandits and land in a secluded area. Hotaru then shows Utakata the hidden jutsu implanted in her body.

Utakata & Hotaru

Out of no where, a group of Mist Village Tracker ninja appears and traps Utakata while taking Hotaru hostage. They let it be known that Utakata killed his master, Harusame, of Kirigakure the Mist Village.

Naruto finally catches up to Hotaru and frees Utakata with the help of Sai and Yamato.

Feb. 11, 2010. ep. 147: Past of the Rogue Ninja

Yamato realizing that these group of Mist Village ninjas are Anbu, begin negotiating with them.

The leader of the group pulls Utakata and Yamato aside. Yamato compromised with the leader of Mist Anbu to avoid war from the two countries; Utakata leaves with the Konoha ninja until the girl is safe, and after that he will be handed over to the Mist Village. Then the leader of the Mist Village Anbu, Tsurugi, speaks to Utakata alone, and his tone changes. He pleads with Utakata to return to the village, promising that they will not see him as a killer. During their conversation, they state that Utakata is a Jinchuuriki, a six-tailed slug, and while his master was trying to separate the Tailed Beast from him, the bijuu came out and killed his master instead.

Konoha ninjas then leave with Hotaru back to where they came from to meet up with Tonbei and Sakura, hoping to come up with a plan for their next move. During the journey, Hotaru falls ill. Utakata, wanting to protect Hotaru’s secret of the hidden jutsu on her back, sends everyone away, but Naruto stumbles upon this secret and becomes disgusted with “masters” using their pupils this way (seeing how HIS sensei, even though perverted, was like a parent to him, always looking out for him and never just spoon-feeding him with knowledge nor using him to further their purpose).

Feb. 18, 2010. ep. 148: Heir to Darkness

Team 7 reaches Mt. Katsurugi with Hotaru and Utakata. Together they begin to discuss their next course of action. Unbeknown to them, the leader of the group of bandits has caught up to them and is eavesdropping on the conversation through a picture hanging on the wall. Hotaru reveals that it is she who requested the jutsu to be sealed in her. Even more shocking is that her grandfather found a way to safely remove the jutsu from her body. Tonbei then suggests the removal of the jutsu from Hotaru, which will also destroy the jutsu forever. This makes Hotaru hesitant, as it means that the life of her clan perishes with the destruction of this very same jutsu that her grandfather protected. She insists on searching for Shiranami, the other user of the jutsu besides her grandfather.  Ironically, the person they are looking for, is the same eavesdropper and bandit leader seeking the Forbidden jutsu. As Naruto searches for an unknown person (not knowing even how he looks like), the remaining Team 7 prepares the materials for removing the jutsu from Hotaru’s body in the following two days.

Naruto sends his clones out to search for this unknown person, and is finally directed by an old man to a nearby village.

Utakata

Utakata

Utakata too leaves to speak with Tsurugi of the Mist village Anbu, wondering if there is any truth in what his late master’s intentions were. Hotaru is upset that Utakata left without saying a word, and probably gives chase. Unfortunately, the Mist village Anbu are backed into a corner by a roaring beast, as a Rinnegan eye appears from the woods. Will the six tails be caught by Akatsuki and Utakata forever lost to Hotaru?

Feb. 25, 2010. ep. 149: Parting

Naruto reaches the village and is jumped by the bandits from before, who are lying in wait for his arrival. With Shiranami’s chakra-binding jutsu, Naruto is boxed in. He tries to escape from his predicament, but he is quickly outnumbered and outmaneuvered.

A runaway Hotaru, searching for a missing Utakata, encounters Shiranami. He spins a pretty tale of Naruto leaving Hotaru to him for protection. Just as his father once protected the Forbidden jutsu and wanted the clan to flourish, he too wants the same. What he leaves out is the fact that he was the power-hungry monster who killed his own father to attain the Forbidden jutsu. Hotaru willingly follows him but wants to leave a note of departure for Tonbei (but addresses it to Utakata), which she leaves in the aid of a pigeon. Shiranami, not wanting Hotaru’s whereabouts to be known, sends a killer kanji to destroy the pigeon and evidence. Hotaru is then promptly kidnapped as he reveals himself as the leader of the bandits. He brings her to Tsuchigumo village to unseal the Forbidden jutsu.

Utakata see the troubled pigeon, and goes to its rescue. He finds the note left by Hotaru and goes in search for her. Instead, he stumbles upon a captured Naruto, and scares the bandits away.

Naruto and Utakata then track Hotaru back to her own village, but are attacked by bandits and hypnotized villagers. Team 7 too arrives in time to hold off the villagers and bandits, while Naruto and Utakata search for Shiranami before he unseals the jutsu.

MARCH 2010

March 4, 2010. ep. 150: Activate the Forbidden Jutsu

Hotaru is restrained by Shiranami’s  binding jutsu. He vindictively states that she is nothing more than a vessel to store chakra for the release of the Forbidden jutsu. Following the flow of chakra being drawn to a specific spot, Utakata and Naruto finally find Hotaru. Unfortunately they are rein in by Shiranami’s jutsu. Even though they manage to free themselves off the binding jutsu using their bijuu’s chakra, it is too late. His plan is to rule the world, making the Five Kages bend to his every whim, while using Hotaru as his tool. Shiranami, having amassed enough chakra in Hotaru, releases the Forbidden jutsu. The area flattens and dissipates into nothingness as Hotaru cries for her betrayal of Utakata.

Team 7 is stuck in a deadlock with the bandits and villagers, as they are unwilling to hurt the innocent villagers.

March 11, 2010. ep. 151: Master and Student

Utakata and Naruto live another day. Naruto takes on Shinranami while Utakata quells Hotaru’s overflow of chakra with his bijuu. Team 7 also manages to stop the rampaging village people. Hotaru finally leaves with Utakata to begin training journey together as master and pupil. Unfortunately for them, their happiness is short-lived.

Utakata lives through the explosion, only to be attacked and taken in by Pain. His last words to Hotaru is to live on, well.
